July 2024 Phase 2 TSC Salary Increment Update
The much-anticipated July 2024 TSC salary increment for phase 2 is on the horizon, bringing good news for eligible teachers. Scheduled to begin on July 1st, 2024, this pay rise will benefit teachers hired before July 1, 2023. This is in line with Teachers Service Commission (TSC) guidelines.
One significant change lies in house allowances, particularly for teachers under cluster 4, as the other three clusters will maintain their current rates. This salary increment aims to bolster teachers’ earnings, aligning them with the rising cost of living.
Recent developments have signaled the impending implementation of phase 2. Honorable Ndindi Nyorou, Kiharu Member of Parliament, unveiled the plan following the announcement of budget allocations for 2024–2025, instilling hope among teachers for the realization of agreements between TSC and teachers’ unions.
The 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) is expected to allocate a substantial portion of the KES 369.94 billion budget to the Teacher Service Commission under the education sector.
The implementation plan, structured into two phases, commenced with the first phase from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. Now, teachers eagerly anticipate the second and final phase from July 1st, 2024, to June 30th, 2025.
In phase 2, TSC teachers will see adjustments in their basic salaries, alongside enhanced house allowance rates categorized into four clusters:
- Cluster 1: Nairobi City
- Cluster 2: Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru Cities, Nyeri, Eldoret town, Thika, Kisii town, Malindi, and Kitale municipalities
- Cluster 3: Other former municipalities
- Cluster 4: All other areas
