GOVT TO RELEASE FUNDS TO SCHOOLS STARTING NEXT WEEK

Release of Free Secondary Education funds or capitation to schools will be effected from next week as declared by the State Department for Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang.

According to Kipsang, a total of  Sh16.25 billion government funds will be disbursed towards the Free Secondary Education capitation kit for schools.

The ps indicated that the above amount represnts 25 % of the outstanding capitation that public secondary schools across the country were requesting from the government. While speaking before the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee on Monday  Kipsang said that the  government allocated Sh65 billion for Free Secondary Education capitation in the current fiscal year ending June 2023.

Kipsang further pointed out that the schools have already disbursed 25 percent of the total capitation amount of the 50 percent that was slated for first term.

The PS further declared that allocated funds are expected to reflect in school accounts within the next 10 days. Earlier, the two teacher unions KNUT and KUPPET  warned that the failure of the government to release capitation fees had seen adverse effects on the smooth running of public schools.

According to the unions, several  school teachers were struggling to run their  schools due to the current financial crisis.

The unions had also threatened for the earlier school closure since there were delays in the release of funds to run the schools.
